Want to prove your programming prowess? The Cal Poly Linux Users Group is pleased to announce our third quarterly programming competition!

The competition will be held on May 11th, this Saturday, in the White Hat Security Lab.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants, and free food will be available for all participants, courtesy of our friends at iFixit! They’re hiring student interns: http://ifixit.com/Info/Jobs

Problems will be similar to those of the ACM-ICPC. Participants of all skill levels are welcome!

What: Free Your Machine
When: Saturday, April 27, 10am-2pm
Where: 197-204 (Security Lab)

Come have CPLUG install Linux on your computer! We can also troubleshoot any Linux related problems you have, or you can even just show up to hang out.

We will dual boot your machine with Linux Mint (an excellent Linux distribution) so you won’t lose your current OS. We’ll have Linux Mint 14 and Ubuntu 12.10 disks/flash drives on hand, and we can help you install another distribution if you bring your own installation media.

Free Fatte’s pizza will be available, courtesy of our friends at iFixit—they’re hiring for internships!

What: Mastering Makefiles and Making Bender Cry
Presenter: Timothy Goya, Systems Software Engineer at Green Hill software, CPLUG alumnus
Where: Security Lab (Building 197, Room 204)
When: Saturday, October 20th, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM

CPLUG is excited to host a talk this Saturday by Bash evangelist and ASM madman Timothy Goya, who will be discussing advanced makefile design, code coverage analysis, and low-level application profiling. No prior experience in these areas are required, but come prepared to learn!

Students in or planning to take Dr. Staley’s CPE 305 class are encouraged to attend, as the skills taught will be valuable for this course especially.

This event is intended to help new students who are unfamiliar with Linux gain a foothold on the command line. It will include basic commands, time saving tricks, and attendance from CPLUG members who love answering questions. This talk will cover tools necessary to succeed in the introductory courses.

Hey CPLUGers! We have two events coming up this weekend:

Intro to Unix Talk
WHEN: Saturday, November 5th, 5:00 PM
WHERE: Building 14 Room 302

We will be giving our quarterly Intro to Unix talk Saturday, 11/5 at 5PM in 14-302.

Intro to Unix is a quarterly talk aimed at new students and those who are unfamiliar with Linux to gain a foothold on the command line. We will cover basic commands, introduce time saving tricks, and answer
any questions you may have.

The talk will cover what is necessary to succeed in the introductory 100-level courses.
