Open House 09

Hey folks, come by our booth at open house, we’re across from the library, 8am to 4pm. We have new t-shirts and will be selling them at our booth!

William and Austin will be hosting a Robocode tournament in room 14-309 from 11 to 3. See: the robocode page for more details.

FYM

Hey you guys!
This is a reminder for the free your machine event this saturday! We’ll install linux for you and we can have your machine dual boot so you won’t lose your current OS. FYM will be in 20-124 at 10-2 (no new installs accepted after 1:30!). So come over to get linux installed, get linux questions answered, or just hang out! So in short:

The Next Two Days

Hey guys we have two events in the next few days:

First, tonight, Thursday, Power of Unix. POU is an introduction to some interesting commands that people tend to not know about, or how to use.

When: Thursday 1/22/09 7pm
Who: CPLUG Execboard

Saturday we will be having our quarterly Free Your Machine. We will install linux on any machine, although if you have very strange hardware, or your machine can’t run Windows, please contact us beforehand so that we can be prepared.  Please remember that if you wish to dual boot, you need to defragment windows before you come.  See http://cplug.org/fym for more information.

Winter Intro to Unix

Since ACM has decided to hold their first meeting of the year at the
same time as our Introduction to UNIX talk, and the presenter for that
talk has requested a later date due to other obligations, we’re
postponing Intro to UNIX until Jan 20th. Sorry for that late notice.

Intro to unix is for anyone who would like to learn the basics of the unix/linux command line. This event, like all of our events, is free of charge.

Gnome Talk Monday 11/17/08

the Gnome Talk is tomorrow at 11/17, Monday, 7 PM at 14-301.

We will discuss some useful programs such as gnome-do and other launcher programs, phatch, and other GUI programs to help making configuring your desktop easier.

Perl Talk : Camels and Awesomeness

Coming soon to the Cal Poly Computer Science Department, from the people who brought you the cult classic “Linux for Newbs” and the Broadway hit “Lone Single Man presenting SVN” comes another technical talk that has all the ladies talking, “Man with Hat juggling Camels teaches you Perl”!

When: November 3rd, 7pm 2008
Where: Cal Poly SLO Computer Science Building, 14-301

This presentation will be done by our very own President, Austin Hendrix, and will provide an introductory look into Perl, how to use it, and why all the cool kids have been using it since 1987.
