What is the SAN?
The SAN is the Cal Poly Open Source Storage Area Network. It’s essentially a series of hard drives hooked up to a webserver.
Who runs it?
The SAN was originally a couple of Cal Poly Students’ senior project. After that it fell into the hands of some CPLUG members. It is currently housed in the CSC Dept’s Server room, along with the rest of the CSC servers. It is remotely administered by CPLUG students.
What is on the SAN?
Repositories for Ubuntu, Fedora, CentOS, Gentoo and FedoraLivna are currently available. These repositories are currently updated 3 times a week. Starting next year they will be updated nightly.
How do I use the SAN?
Depending on your distribution, using the SAN could require editing a text file or punching some text into a GUI tool. For example, Ubuntu has instructions here that can help you add the SAN to your list of repositories. Check the documentation for your distribution for specific instructions, and feel free to hop in the channel and ask questions if the instructions seem daunting.
The address you need to connect to get to the SAN is http://mirrors.calpoly.edu
